There are two classes of MOSFETs. There is depletion mode and there is enhancement mode. Each class is available as n- or a p-channel, giving a total of four types of MOSFETs. Depletion mode comes in an N or a P and an enhancement mode comes in an N or a P. We have four different types of MOSFETs.
It is a four-terminal device with source (S), drain (D) and gate Terminal (G) and body (B) terminals. The body is frequently connected to the source terminal, reducing the terminals to three. It works by varying the width of a channel along which charge carriers flow (electrons or holes).
In general, the MOSFET is a four-terminal device with a Drain (D), Source (S), gate (G) and a Body (B) / Substrate terminals. The body terminal will always be connected to the source terminal hence, the MOSFET will operate as a three-terminal device.
